The following is a list of factory recommended service intervals and related information pertaining to 2005 Grand Cherokee WK models (USA). Differences will be noted as the information becomes available. Before performing any service, check your vehicle owners manual for verification of intervals, capacities and other recommendations, cautions and warnings.
WARNING: You can be badly injured working on or around a motor vehicle. Do only that service work for which you have the proper equipment. If you have any doubt about your ability to perform a service or maintenance job, take your vehicle to a competent mechanic.
Service Interval “A” is for vehicles that are not operated under any of the conditions listed under Schedule “B.” Most vehicles are operated under the conditions listed for Schedule “B”. Use the schedule that best describes your driving conditions. Where time and mileage are listed, follow the interval that occurs first. Service Interval B (Heavy) Follow this schedule if you usually operate your vehicle under one or more of the following conditions:

5W-20 (5.7 V8 Hemi)
MOPAR® API Certified SAE 5W-20 engine oil, meeting the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395. (Note: It is important to use only 5W-20 oil for proper operation of the Multiple Displacement System. Use of other weight oils will affect the on/off timing window of the MDS system and may also result in unbalanced engine wear).
(For best performance and maximum protection under all types of operating conditions, the manufacturer only recommends full synthetic engine oils that meet the American Petroleum Institute (API) categories of SM or SM/CF, and meet the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-10725. The manufacturer recommends the use of a full synthetic engine oil, such as Pennzoil Platinum® European Formula SAE 5W-40 or equivalent.) *Note for the 6.1L engine: The oil change specification calls for 7 quarts of oil when changing the oil and filter. Some owners have reported a slight to moderate overfill reading on the dipstick when installing a full 7 quarts. The 6.1L engine drains the oil slower than other engines. Drain the old warmed oil for at least 20 minutes to get as much out as possible. We suggest adding around 6-1/2 quarts, run the engine for a few minutes, shut it down and let sit for awhile, then fill as neccessary to bring the reading to the safe area on the dipstick. The top of the safe area represent the proper "full" level. Note that adding a full 7 quarts (with filter change) will never overfill the engine to such an extent that any oil foaming or harm will result, even if the level is beyond the "safe" reading on the dipstick.

Transfer cases (4WD/AWD Grand Cherokees only) Grand Cherokee WK's use three different transfer cases, identified on the interior shift console. A circular ID tag is attached to the rear of each transfer case. The ID tag provides the transfer case model number, assembly number, gear ratio and location of manufacture. The transfer case serial number also represents the date of build. See also: WK Four-Wheel Drive Systems

Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 5-year/100,000 mile formula
p/n 68048953AB (formerly 5066386AA) MSRP $21.95/gallon. The recommended mixture is 50/50 ethylene-glycol and water. Never use pure antifreeze. The use of aluminum cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and water pumps requires special corrosion protection. Mopar® Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (MS-9769), or the equivalent ethylene-glycol base coolant with organic corrosion inhibitors (called HOAT, for Hybrid Organic Additive Technology) is recommended. This coolant offers the best engine cooling without corrosion when mixed with 50% ethylene-glycol and 50% distilled water to obtain a freeze point of -37°C (-35°F). If it loses color (red/orange) or becomes contaminated, drain, flush, and replace with fresh properly mixed coolant solution. Notes: Antifreeze mixture must always be at least 44%, all climates year round. Maximum protection (-90d) is provided with a 68% mixture protection. Do not change the thermostat for summer or winter operation. If replacement is ever necessary, install ONLY the correct type thermostat. Other designs may result in unsatisfactory cooling performance, poor gas mileage, and increased emissions. CAUTION: Use of Propylene-Glycol based coolants is not recommended, as they provide less freeze protection and less corrosion protection. CAUTION: Mopar® Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (MS-9769) may not be mixed with any other type of antifreeze. Mixing of coolants other than specified (non-HOAT or other HOAT), may result in engine damage that may not be covered under the new vehicle warranty, and decreased corrosion protection. CAUTION: Do not use coolant additives that are claimed to improve engine cooling. Avoid non-HOAT mixtures, such as Prestone 50/50, that claim they can be used in vehicles of "all makes, all models".

Diesel:
Use only the best quality fuel with a calculated Cetane Index of 50 or higher. In addition, the manufacturer recommends using diesel fuel with a sulfur content of less than 350 ppm. Gasoline:
87 octane Regular unleaded 89 octane Mid-grade unleaded 91 octane or higher Premium unleaded NOTE: The use of Premium gasoline is NOT recommended for the 3.7L, 4.7L or 5.7L engines. Under normal conditions, the use of Premium gasoline will not provide a benefit over high quality Regular and Mid-grade gasoline, and in some circumstances may result in poorer performance. NOTE: DO NOT use gasolines containing Methanol or E85 Ethanol. Use of these blends may result in starting and driveability problems and may damage critical fuel system components. | As required (6.1L Hemi, | As required (6.1L Hemi, |
